the Organizations We're Supporting

WhyHunger

Harry Chapin’s dedication to social causes was unparalleled. As one of the first artists to use his platform for activism, Chapin co-founded WhyHunger with radio DJ Bill Ayres in 1975, aiming to fight global hunger. Together, they believed that "access to nutritious food is a human right and hunger is a solvable problem in a world of abundance." Chapin played an integral role in raising awareness and funding, often donating the proceeds from his concerts to charity.

Long Island Cares

In 1980, Chapin founded Long Island Cares, a food bank providing critical resources to the underserved in his community. Chapin performed more than half of his shows for charity and was a tireless advocate in Washington, lobbying for food policy reform. Today, Long Island Cares remains dedicated to putting an end to the root causes of hunger, following 7 key principles: Leadership, Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Empowerment, and Stewardship.

The Harry Chapin Foundation

The Harry Chapin Foundation honors Harry Chapin posthumously by continuing his legacy and exemplifying the belief that everyone is capable of making a difference in the world. As stated on their website, "the mission of the Harry Chapin Foundation is to support organizations that have demonstrated their ability to dramatically improve the lives and livelihood of people by helping them to become self-sufficient."

Together, we can honor Harry Chapin’s legacy and make a lasting impact on the world.
